Not Too Shabby...Or so I thought

OK, so for a very long time I have had this secret obsession with vintage and shabby chic items & decor. You know. Distressed furniture, pink, aqua blue, little birdies, roses and bits of chenille. I've never decorated with them because I'm afraid that I will tire of them too quickly & because {I know this sounds dumb, but they're my neurotic thoughts so don't judge me} I want things that are neutral enough to coordinate with all of my holiday decorations throughout the year without clashing. Stop laughing. I have very neutral style in my home. You know, earth-tone walls and black distressed furniture. I love finding vintage {or vintage-looking} items but steer clear of white {shabby} items. {PB Teen - I've had my eye on that dressform for a loooong time}

However, lately, I've found myself drawn to all things shabby chic. In fact, every time I go to Target, I can't resist a little stroll down the children's bedding eisle to check out this cute little bedding set and all of the accessories. Which brings me to my solution to my decorating delima. Little B's room!! This was my ah ha moment. Small but so, so big. Anyway, I was going to wait until we moved into a bigger house and she had her own room but I can't stop thinking about it and obsessing over this bedding set being gone soon. We'll see.

On a side-note: I never actually buy anything I find and then I regret it later. I have to get over that. I'm so jealous of people who make split-second decisions. Like going to Costco for chicken and coming home with a new bedroom set. {Leslieee, I'm looking in your direction} Maybe I'll start blogging about it & force myself to share with you guys. You know, hold myself accountable for FINALLY decorating my house. I think I might have too much on my plate now but maybe it could be my winter project. It could work.

what I did this summer

Okay, so I have to apologize to you guys. The few of you that read this have been asking me for new posts and until today, I've failed to deliver. I promise, I've been busy working on something very exciting...well exciting to me.
Anyway, here is what I've been working on. I have a few more to come up with before I post them to my new shop on Etsy and I'm super excited {and a little nervous} to get them out there for everybody to see.
{I have a friend looking for giraffe invites for a baby shower...cute or mod? I couldn't decide}

The Newest {First}

With such a busy summer, we finally had a day of non-commitment.
Finally.
It seems like this summer is flying by and our weekends are spent doing everything but relaxing. So, what do we do when we have an unexpected day of nothing to do? Panic and pull out our to-do list.
We have been talking about getting M's hair cut for a while now. Ever since we noticed that the hair on the top of his head was nowhere near as long as that in the back...making for a little mullet of curls. It wasn't always noticeable {& neither was the little shaggy ends that peeked over his ears every so often} but when you did see it, well, whoa! And as much as I loved running my fingers through his little ringlets, the mullet just had to go.
So, we made a little impromptu trip up to Wilsonville to this little place called "Whipper-Snippers". It's this adorable little salon that caters to kids and has everything you can think of that might calm the jitters of a little one facing the shears for the first time. Caitlin, our stylist, was great too. She was quick and great with the kids.
Sorry about the picture overload...it was tough to choose. Enjoy!
M liked the fighter jet {plus, it was best for a squirmy guy like him}

{Before}
I wasn't kidding about the curly mullet.

{After}
much better
...and no more mullet {or curls *sigh*}

play time while little B gets a trim

B chose the pink airplane but later changed her mind and wanted the red car

besides the whining about changing chairs, she did really well

My Little Pony's helped {a TV at every station w/ a movie list to pick from - Genius!

B got to pick out a little clippy when she was done
{Um, I'll take that one. Please}

and the finishing touch? Glitter spray!

only about an inch off the ends but it makes a huge difference

and finally, time to play!

to the nines...

When did I start getting more excited about new clothes for the kids than I do about new clothes for me? I used to l.o.v.e. getting new clothes {don't get me wrong, I still do} but, man, do I just love getting new things for my little ones to wear!
Thanks to Leslie, I've discovered 77Kids - American Eagle's kids line. They had a sale last week and marked TONS of stuff down to $7.77 -- how do you resist 75% off of some items? Even though I missed out on a few things I would've liked, I still got a bunch of much needed clothes for the kids at rockin' prices! When the package arrived today, I just couldn't wait to rip into it. Here are a few of the things I was most excited about... new board shorts for M...can't wait to hit the pool!

adorable {skull w/ surf boards} polo for M

graphic T for M

my favorite thing for my little man...belted cargos!

T's & tanks for little miss B

Oh, btw, being "dressed to the nines" is said to have originated back when taylors used 9 yards of fabric to make a suit. The more fabric used, the higher status you had. There are other theories about the origination of this figure of speach, but that is the one I like the best.

p.s. I know, I know...I'm easily ammused and excitable but I'm glad I have friends and family that love me for it! --Thanks for reading!
